When retirement is just around the corner, planning for the future is a must. For Don D. and his wife, moving into a more comfortable home was the top retirement priority.
After they found a house under construction that had fallen out of escrow, Don and his wife signed a contract to buy. The plan was to use the proceeds from selling their house to help finance the down payment on the new one. But that meant that step one was selling a property that needed a lot of work to become market ready.

Traditional real estate sales aren’t for everyone
At first, Don considered listing his home on the traditional real estate market. But he knew that selling a home through a real estate agent comes with a lot of hidden costs and time spent preparing the house for showings. On top of that, you have to account for the length of time it takes for the entire process to run its course. For Don and his wife, going this route would have ended up being an inconvenience.
“The house was in fairly good shape, but it would have taken a lot of work cleaning up,” Don explained. “I just didn’t want to hassle with the minor home repair stuff.”
The Daubman family also has pets, four dogs and seven cats, to be specific. They considered boarding the animals while repairs went into the house before selling it. But in the end they decided going down this route was more trouble than it was worth.
This meant that Don and his wife were not going to be able to prepare their home for showings. As Don put it,”People don’t want to look at a house when the owners and their pets are still there.”

A faster way to sell your home
For Don, the speed of the transaction was the most important factor that went into whether or not he chose to sell his home with us. “We needed it to happen quickly,” said Don. “And it was going to happen quickly.”
